Talijanske spasilačke službe nastavljaju potragu za preživjelima nakon što se u utorak srušio vijadukt na autocesti u sjeverozapadnom talijanskom gradu Genovi. Ministar unutarnjih poslova Matteo Salvini potvrdio je kako je broj žrtava narastao na 35. Među mrtvima je i troje djece, u dobi od 8, 12 i 13 godina.

Oko 250 vatrogasaca iz cijele Italije sudjeluju u potrazi za preživjelima, uz pomoć pasa tragača i opreme za penjanje. “Ne gubimo nadu. Nećemo prestati s potragom sve dok ne pronađemo posljednju žrtvu”, rekao je vatrogasni zapovjednik Emanuele Giffi za agenciju AFP.
Hospitalizirano je 16 ozlijeđenih osoba, od kojih je 12 u teškom stanju. Iz obiteljskih kuća i industrijskih objekata u blizini vijadukta evakuirano je više od 400 osoba.
Talijanski vatrogasci na Twitteru su objavili snimku spašavanja jedne osobe iz uništenog automobila.

U vrijeme urušavanja, na tom dijelu vijadukta bilo je između 30 i 35 vozila. Vijadukt se srušio na autocestu ispod njega, u rijeku i na skladište.
“Katastrofa je pogodila Genovu i čitavu Italiju. Strašna i apsurdna drama pogodila je pojedince i obitelji”, izjavio je talijanski predsjednik Sergio Mattarella u priopćenju.
Po talijanskoj civilnoj zaštiti, računajući vatrogasce, policajce, Crveni križ i druge, u spašavanju je sudjelovalo tisuću osoba.
Uzrok urušavanja vijadukta, do kojeg je došlo rijekom velikih kiša, još uvijek nije poznat, ali mnogi su naglasili probleme s stabilnosti same strukture vijadukta. Salvini je poručio kako će svi odgovorni za urušavanje ‘platiti, platiti sve i to skupo’. Na mjesto tragedije u Genovi u ponedjeljak navečer je stigao talijanski premijer Giuseppe Conte kako bi iskazao podršku obiteljima unesrećenih.
Vijadukt Morandi pušten je u promet 4. rujna 1967. nakon četiri godine gradnje. Nazvan je po projektantu, inženjeru Riccardu Morandiju, dug je 1.182 metra te je niz godina meta kritika zbog svoje problematične konstrukcije, pišu talijanske novine Corriere della Sera koje dodaju da se urušio možda upravo zbog toga.
Vijadukt je obnovljen 2016. godine i prolazi iznad trgovačkih cenatara, tvornica, stambenih zgrada, željeznice Genova-Milan i rijeke Polcevera, bio je tema rasprava inženjera zbog velikih troškova održavanja koji su u jednom trenutku trebali prestići same troškove izgradnje, zbog čega su neki čak zahtijevali da se on sruši i sagradi novi.
