On Constitution Square, in front of the gigantic Parliament Palace built by Ceausescu, around 2,000 protesters gathered on Saturday, February 22, 2025. They responded to the call of the AUR party (Alliance for the Union of Romanians), the main supporter of Calin Georgescu in the presidential election.

This election was annulled after the first round, in which, to everyone's surprise, Georgescuâ??until then virtually unknown to the general publicâ??came out on top. After an investigation by intelligence services, it was revealed that although Georgescu had declared no campaign expenses, a strange saturation of social media, particularly TikTok, in his favor was allegedly the result of "interference from a foreign country," implicitly referring to Russia.

While waiting for the new election scheduled for next May, Georgescuâ??s supporters, denouncing a coup, have already secured the resignation of President Klaus Iohannis and are now demanding the resignation of interim President Ilie Bolojan.

As a reminder, CÄ?lin Georgescu, an Orthodox mystic claiming to be in direct contact with God, is a fervent nationalist, environmentalist, anti-vaccine advocate, Eurosceptic, pro-Russian, pro-Trump, and conspiracy theorist.
